The Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) National Calendar for 2023 is now out and it will kick- off with the Dugmore Tournament at Bulawayo Golf Club on 21-22 January 2023.
“This is going to be an exciting year given that in 2022 all the tournaments were played as scheduled without any disturbances and we are happy that most of the players were able to participate in them.
“What is going to make it more interesting is that for the first time in our history, we are going to have both male and female golfers playing the same tournaments that have been lined up this year”, said Tirivashe Nheweyembwa Zimbabwe Golf Association Administrator.
This is in sync with one of our values which is ‘Inclusivity’ and it gives the Lady Golfers an opportunity to be on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) if they win any of the tournaments with an overall score of +8 or better. So far, we have male 10 male golfers. We desire to ensure that we have more players as this increases our chances of making it to the World Amateur Team Championship to be held in October in the United Arab Emirates.
‘Another development that we have this year is that all the Tournaments are going to be played on the World Handicapping System (WHS) using the HNA platform wherein the players will be able to enter their scores on each hole. This will enable those who may not be following them physically to do so virtually.
‘ This is enabled by the HNA system that all the players have this application on their phones, this also applies to the Lady Golfers, it is also in line with one of our key objectives which is to leverage ICT, we will believe that is the game changers for us in Golf’, Nheweyembwa added.
It is for this reason that we are appealing to those in the Corporate sector to also partner with us so that we are able to deliver quality products as a Golfing community and we can assure them that we will give them their expected retain on objective and investment.
In the same vein we are also thrilled to inform the nation that from 18-22 January we are going to receive a visitor from R&A Eden Thompson who is the Development Manager responsible for Africa and his brief will be to meet with the all the Golf Bodies in the country, the Sports and Recreation Commission, the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation. Key issues to be discussed will be the formation of one Golf body in the country something that has been on the table for a while and development programs that we are currently implementing. Eden will wind it off by attending the Dugmore Tournament in Bulawayo from 21-22 January 2022.
